Tikka T3x Trigger Spring Replacement: What to Expect

The Tikka T3x trigger is one of the better factory triggers on the market. It’s adjustable, it’s reasonably crisp, and it works reliably. But most ship from the factory set at 3.5–4 lbs — heavier than what most precision shooters prefer for target work, load development, or long-range hunting.

What a lighter trigger actually gives you

A lighter trigger pull means less force applied to the rifle at the moment of firing. Less force means less movement. Less movement means the rifle stays exactly where you pointed it when the shot breaks.

This matters most in situations where you’re shooting for precision rather than speed — prone, off a bench, or on sticks with time to settle. It also matters when you’re working up loads and need to eliminate as many variables as possible.

A lighter trigger doesn’t make the rifle more accurate. It makes you more consistent, which has the same effect on your groups.

Factory adjustment vs spring replacement

The factory Tikka trigger can be adjusted down to roughly 2 lbs using the adjustment screw inside the trigger guard. For many shooters, this is sufficient. But the factory spring has a characteristic feel at its lower range — it works, but the break isn’t as clean as it could be.

Replacing the trigger spring with a lighter aftermarket spring achieves a similar pull weight (around 2 lbs) but with a noticeably crisper, more defined break. The overtravel feels shorter. The reset is more positive. It’s a qualitative difference, not just a quantitative one.

What to expect from the Nokka Trigger Spring

The Nokka Trigger Spring is a drop-in replacement for the factory coil spring in Tikka T3x and T1x triggers. No modification to the sear, no fitting, no special tools beyond basic gunsmithing screwdrivers.

Expected pull weight after installation: approximately 2 lbs. Exact weight varies slightly by individual rifle and trigger assembly — the trigger mechanism has manufacturing tolerances that affect the final number. Most shooters report landing between 1.8 and 2.2 lbs.

Important notes on installation

The trigger mechanism is a safety-critical component. While the spring swap is mechanically straightforward, we recommend the following:

  • Watch an installation video specific to the Tikka T3x trigger before starting — several good ones exist on YouTube
  • Work on a clean, well-lit surface and keep track of the small parts
  • After installation, perform a function check: cycle the action, confirm the trigger resets properly, confirm the safety engages and disengages correctly, and test with snap caps before live fire
  • If you’re not comfortable working on the trigger mechanism, have a qualified gunsmith do the install — it’s a 15-minute job for a professional

The Nokka spring replaces only the coil spring. It does not modify the sear engagement surfaces or any other part of the trigger mechanism. The safety function is unaffected.

Is it worth it?

If you shoot primarily for precision — whether that’s target shooting, load development, or long-range hunting — the answer is yes. The difference in trigger feel is immediately noticeable and directly translates to smaller groups.

If you use your Tikka primarily for close-range hunting where speed matters more than precision, the factory trigger adjusted to its minimum is probably fine. Save the upgrade for when you want to wring every bit of accuracy out of the platform.
