Tikka T3x with Nokka cheek riser and LOP spacer fitted — corrected stock fit

Why Tikka Factory Stocks Ship Short — And How to Fix Your Fit in 10 Minutes

If you've put a scope on a Tikka T3x and felt like something's slightly off — you're craning your neck to find the reticle, or your trigger hand feels cramped, or recoil shoves the rifle around more than it should — you're not imagining it. The factory stock is built to a compromise that fits the "average" shooter, and almost nobody is exactly average. The good news: the two things it gets wrong are the two cheapest, fastest things to fix on the whole rifle.

Why factory Tikka stocks "ship short" (and low)

Two factory dimensions cause most of the fit complaints:

1. The comb sits too low. Tikka designed the sporter comb height around iron sights and low-mounted optics. The moment you add a Picatinny rail or medium/high rings for a modern scope, the optical centre climbs well above where the comb supports your cheek. So you lift your head to find the reticle — and your head lands in a slightly different spot every shot. That moving head position shifts your eye relief and opens your groups, for reasons that have nothing to do with the barrel.

2. The length of pull is a compromise. Factory Tikka length of pull (trigger to recoil pad) is around 362mm — fine for a medium-framed shooter in a t-shirt. Add a winter hunting jacket, or have longer-than-average arms, and the stock is effectively too short: you're cramped behind the scope, your shoulder pocket doesn't seat the pad cleanly, and recoil management suffers.

Neither of these is a flaw in the rifle. They're the inevitable result of one stock size trying to fit every body. The fix isn't a $600 chassis — it's matching the stock to you.

The 10-minute fix

Two bolt-on, fully reversible parts solve both problems:

Fix the comb height — a drop-comb cheek riser

A Drop Comb Cheek Riser raises the comb to meet your eye at your actual scope height. You set it where your setup needs it, fix it in place, and your cheek lands in the same position every time you shoulder the rifle. The "drop comb" profile angles the contact surface so recoil pushes straight back rather than up into your face — less felt recoil, faster follow-up shots. No drilling, no permanent modification.

Not sure how much rise you need? Our no-guesswork height guide walks you through it in two minutes.

Fix the length — an LOP spacer kit

The Tikka length of pull spacer kit adds 10–30mm of length between the stock and recoil pad. Stack one spacer, both, or neither for several length settings. Two screws off, spacer in, two screws back — about ten minutes with a screwdriver. Now the rifle reaches your arms, in whatever you're wearing.

Do them in the right order

Length of pull first, comb height second. Here's why: changing the stock length moves where your head naturally sits on the comb, which changes the cheek riser height you need. If you set the riser first and then change LOP, you'll be redoing it. So:

  1. Set your length of pull with the spacer kit.
  2. Shoulder the rifle naturally and set the cheek riser height until you see a full, shadow-free sight picture without moving your head.
  3. Re-check your scope's eye relief now that your head position is fixed.

That's it. Ten minutes of work, two reversible parts, and a factory Tikka that fits like it was built for you. If you want both, the Performance Kit bundles the cheek riser and LOP spacers together for about 15% less than buying them separately.

How to tell if your fit is off (30-second test)

With the rifle unloaded and pointed somewhere safe: shoulder it with your eyes closed, settle into a natural position, then open your eyes.

  • If you have to lift your head to find the reticle → your comb is too low (cheek riser).
  • If your trigger finger is cramped or your shoulder pocket doesn't seat the pad → your length of pull is off (LOP spacer).
  • If both → you're the reason the Performance Kit exists.

Every Nokka part is designed in Finland, made in Australia, ships worldwide, and is backed by a 30-day fit guarantee. New here? Use code TIKKA10 for 10% off your first order.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Tikka feel too short?
The factory Tikka length of pull (~362mm) is set for a medium-framed shooter in light clothing. Taller shooters, or anyone in hunting layers, often find it too short — the fix is an LOP spacer kit that adds 10–30mm between the stock and recoil pad, no permanent modification.

Do I need a cheek riser on a Tikka T3x?
If you run a scope on the factory sporter stock, almost certainly yes. The factory comb sits at iron-sight height; a scope on a rail or medium rings sits higher than your cheek can reach naturally. A cheek riser raises the comb so your eye lines up without lifting your head — the single biggest consistency improvement on a factory Tikka.

Can I fix Tikka stock fit without buying a new stock?
Yes. A new chassis or stock costs $400–$1,500 and is overkill for a fit problem. A cheek riser and an LOP spacer kit address the two factory compromises (comb height and length) for under $100 combined, bolt on in about 10 minutes, and are fully reversible.

What order should I set up a Tikka stock?
Length of pull first, then cheek riser height, then scope eye relief. Stock length changes head position, which changes the comb height you need — so set length before height to avoid redoing it.

Do you ship to the US, Canada, and the UK?
