Tikka T3x Setup & Fit Guide: Cheek Weld, Length of Pull, Trigger & Scope (FAQ)

Tikka T3x Setup & Fit Guide: Cheek Weld, Length of Pull, Trigger & Scope (FAQ)

Most Tikka T3, T3x and T1x rifles leave the factory with a stock built for the "average" shooter and iron sights. Put a scope on one and a few things feel slightly off — you crane your neck for the reticle, the stock feels too short in a jacket, the trigger is heavier than you'd like. None of it is a flaw in the rifle; it's a one-size-fits-all stock meeting a specific shooter. Here are straight answers to the questions Tikka owners ask most — with the factory numbers and the 10-minute fixes.

Do I need a cheek riser on a Tikka T3x?

If you run a scope on the factory stock, almost certainly yes. The factory comb is set low for iron sights, so once you mount a scope on a rail or medium/high rings the optical centre sits above where your cheek naturally rests — and you lift your head to find the reticle. A Tikka T3x cheek riser raises the comb so your eye lines up without lifting your head, which is the single biggest consistency gain on a factory Tikka. Not sure how much rise you need? See our no-guesswork height guide.

What cheek riser height do I need for my scope?

It depends on your ring height and objective size — taller rings and bigger objectives (50–56mm) need more comb rise. As a rule of thumb, medium rings with a 50mm objective need a moderate riser; low rings need less. We break it down by common scopes (Vortex, Leupold, Athlon, Maven) in our scope-by-scope height guide.

Why does my Tikka feel too short — or too long?

Factory length of pull (trigger to recoil pad) on a Tikka is about 362 mm (≈13.7"). That suits a medium-framed shooter in a t-shirt. Add a winter hunting jacket or have longer-than-average arms and it's effectively too short; in summer it can feel long. A Tikka length of pull spacer kit adds 10–30 mm between the stock and recoil pad so the rifle fits your body — two screws, about ten minutes, fully reversible.

What order should I set up a Tikka stock?

Length of pull first, then cheek riser height, then scope eye relief. Setting LOP changes where your head sits on the comb, which changes the riser height you need — so do length before height or you'll redo it. Steps: (1) set LOP with spacers; (2) shoulder the rifle and set the riser until you see a full, shadow-free sight picture without moving your head; (3) re-check eye relief.

Is the factory Tikka trigger any good — and how do I lighten it?

The factory Tikka trigger is mechanically excellent, but it ships around 3.5–4 lb, heavier than ideal for precision. The cheapest fix isn't a full aftermarket trigger — it's a drop-in Tikka T3x trigger spring that lets you set a clean ~2 lb pull. It's a ~10-minute swap with no gunsmithing and no change to the trigger geometry or safety function.

What's the best first upgrade for a Tikka T3x?

Fit before firepower. Before a new barrel — or a $500–$1,500 replacement stock or chassis — get the stock fitting you: a cheek riser (if you run a scope), then an LOP spacer, then a lighter trigger spring. Those three address the main ergonomic and mechanical compromises of the factory setup for under $100 combined — roughly a tenth of the price of a chassis, with none of the weight penalty. If you want both ergonomic fixes together, the Performance Kit bundles the cheek riser and LOP spacers.

Do Tikka accessories fit both the T3x and T1x (and T3)?

Mostly yes. Sako uses the same stock architecture and trigger-group geometry across the T3, T3x and T1x, so a cheek riser, LOP spacer or trigger spring designed for one generally fits the others. All Nokka parts are made for the T3, T3x and T1x OEM stocks — always check the specific product's compatibility note before buying.

Does any of this require drilling or void my warranty?

No drilling, and nothing permanent. The cheek riser mounts with double-sided tape or a dab of removable superglue; the LOP spacers use the two existing recoil-pad screws (might need longer ones depending of your rifle). Both come off cleanly. The trigger spring is a reversible swap — keep your factory spring if you ever want to revert. (Internal trigger changes can affect Tikka's warranty on the trigger group specifically, so that's worth knowing.)

The 30-second Tikka fit test

With the rifle unloaded and pointed somewhere safe: shoulder it with your eyes closed, settle into a natural position, then open your eyes. If you have to lift your head to find the reticle, your comb is too low (cheek riser). If your trigger finger feels cramped or the pad doesn't seat cleanly in your shoulder, your length of pull is off (LOP spacer). If both — that's what the Performance Kit is for.
